Communicating Your Brand To Investors

As a tech entrepreneur running a startup, you need investors. You understand your technology and how it addresses the needs of your early-adopter customers. Investors want to understand the market you are in, including market size, and your ability to compete for dominant marketshare in that market. They need to understand the opportunity for growth and return on their investment. You need to be able to explain the problem you resolve for customers, including the acuity of that business pain, and how your brand will connect with a large segment of your market.

We have developed this program for early stage tech companies, with the following goals:

  • Attract more qualified investors

  • Raise more capital to grow your business

Through a collaborative process, we quickly develop a unique and compelling brand story. It starts with the founder’s vision, and incorporates your value proposition and differentiated competitive positioning. The output is a set of marketing assets that will articulate your story to investors.

Program Includes These 5 Deliverables

1. Unique Value Proposition

2. Positioning Statement

3. Brand Identity

4. Customer Journey

5. Messaging for Investors

These marketing assets will provide the foundations for development of your company’s marketing strategy and brand strategy. As a startup, it is likely that these assets will continue to evolve and be refined as you develop your product, gain more customers, and learn more about the value you deliver to you customers.

How will our collaboration work to define these marketing assets?

1st step: I facilitate a discussion with the company founders and management team to learn their vision for the company, their marketplace, competitive landscape, and customer value. I review current sales & marketing materials, website, IR materials, planning documents and research reports.

2nd step: Preliminary drafts of the assets are produced. At this point we refine and iterate the story that will intrigue and attract investors.

3rd step: After further discussions and refinement, the finished documents are presented.

Why does BRAND matter for a startup?

A tech company that develops one product can grow to $20M or $50M in annual revenue. To grow to $100M means extending your product line, entering international markets, and possibly employing distribution partners to resell your products. This is where the brand becomes important. You want customers to realize the value of your brand, and not have it lost among disconnected product names or resellers that attach their name to your product.

Shouldn’t my Investor Relations person be producing these assets for me?

Your IR person is an expert at explaining the financial-side of your story to investors. IR person are rarely experts on branding and the development of marketing assets. Your IR person will appreciate these assets and will integrate them into the investor pitch.

Do I get a logo designed for my brand, and other assets?

No. Production of a logo, brand standards guide, marketing brochure, website content and corporate PowerPoint would be follow-on projects, and priced individually.

What does this program cost?

It is less expensive than you may think. We can tailor a program to your budget.
